ReplyDeleteAnyone who has read Peter Carey's Oscar and Lucinda will know it's a fairly impossible task to film it. Gillian Armstrong took up the challenge, and the resulting film is a handsome, atmospheric attempt but overall doesn't work unless you have knowledge of the book to flesh out the characters and motivations.
